Strawberry Milkshake

strawberries, milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla

Strawberries are the quintessential taste of summer.  And when I think of strawberries, I think of childhood.  Hot summer nights.  Riding in the pickup truck to town.  Dusty roads.  Windows rolled down.  T-shirt with cut-off jean shorts.  And the local mom-n-pop restaurant that stayed open late on summer evenings.  Orders were placed for cold treats […]

Cook a Flour Tortilla to Perfection

dry, hot skillet

I have a love affair with southwest cuisine.  The flavors.  The textures.  The aromas.  This is comfort food at its best.  For me, one item is the first to come to mind when I am ready to tuck into a perfectly prepared southwestern plate of food.  It is the humble tortilla. Over the years, tortillas […]

How to Remove Honey Frames

prying apart honey supers with hive tool

Late summer/early fall signals many things.  It heralds the changing of colors in the tree canopies.   The end of the warm season crops in the garden.  Cool evenings. Welcome to Urban Overalls

I’m Connie. Growing up on a farm in rural Iowa taught me me many lessons: raising chickens, growing produce, enjoying raw milk, how to cook from scratch using whole foods, canning, mending clothes, and the importance of being someone who gives back to the community.

Now, living in an urban setting, I brought my country ways with me. Join us as Mr. Overalls and I share our adventures, recipes, and how-to in our daily lives on our 1/3 acre slice of heaven near the center of town.
